Facebook gives out dozens of presents to students at PS 55 in Claremont

Christmas came early for dozens of students at P.S. 55 Benjamin Franklin in Claremont thanks to Facebook.
The students’ holiday wishes were granted after they wrote personal letters to one of the biggest social media companies in the world.

Facebook reached out to the school all in the spirit to give back to the community, handing out dozens of presents.

"My heart was broken when I learned how many of these children lived in homeless shelters and don't have parents. For us this is about helping and raising awareness. We need to go where the need is,” says Kia Floyd, public policy and community engagement for Facebook.

Principal Luis Torres said the gesture has filled him with joy.

"I grew up not too far from here and I was in their shoes and it’s amazing to give back and if I have to leverage anyone to give resources to my children. I always tell people I'm the biggest hustler in the world,” says Principal Torres.

This is first time Facebook is giving back to a Bronx school, but the company says it won't be the last.

"It made me feel happy. I want to tell Facebook I love them,” says Torres.
