A Bronx livery driver accused of stabbing a man proclaimed his innocence after appearing in court on Thursday.
Police say livery driver Sandy DeJesus Rodriguez stabbed a man he claims tried to cheat him out of his fare, but DeJesus Rodriguez says he is the victim in this case.
DeJesus Rodriguez stood before a judge at the Bronx Hall of Justice to proclaim his innocence.
Police say back on Oct. 13, he picked up a female passenger who after getting her destination ran off with his fare box containing $190. When the defendant followed her into a Webster Avenue apartment building, they say he encountered the woman's male partner.
Authorities say the two men began to fight. Police say DeJesus Rodriguez stabbed the male victim.
However, his attorney says that is not the full story. He says his client was only defending himself from the couple who robbed DeJesus Rodriguez once before.
DeJesus Rodriguez is free on bond. He is due back in court on Jan. 7.
