Official: Juvenile suspect arrested in fatal stabbing of college freshman near her NYC campus

A juvenile suspect has been arrested in the fatal stabbing of an 18-year-old Barnard College freshman, according to a law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation.
Police say Tessa Majors was walking in Manhattan’s Morningside Park early Wednesday evening when she was accosted by an unknown number of people and stabbed. The school president says it was an armed robbery.
She then staggered to a nearby street, where she was spotted by a security guard who called 911.
She died at a hospital.
Investigators recovered a knife Thursday, but were not certain whether it was connected to Majors’ death.
Barnard is part of the Ivy League's Columbia University. Police had increased patrols around the campus and park.
New York's homicide total has now eclipsed 300 killings for the first time since 2016.
