Brooklyn mom receives settlement after officers yank toddler from her at benefits center

Posted: Updated:

The Brooklyn woman whose toddler was yanked from her arms by officers at a benefits center has received a settlement from the city.

A video shows the incident that happened last December.

Jazmine Headley went to a local services office to find out why her son's day care vouchers had been cut. She says she ended up on the floor due to lack of seating, and that's when her family claims police and security unnecessarily got involved.

A City Hall spokesperson tells News 12, "Ms. Headley came to the City seeking help, and we failed to treat her with the dignity and respect she deserved. While this injustice should have never happened, it forced a reckoning with how we treat our most vulnerable and prompted us to make reforms at HRA Centers across the City. We hope this settlement brings Ms. Headley and her family a degree of closure."
