Family of woman fatally shot through peephole wants reward increased

Posted: Updated:

The family of a woman who was fatally shot through the peephole of her Grand Concourse front door say they are still searching for answers more than a year after the crime.

Police say they have video of a suspect and an image of the car they believe he fled in, but no arrests have been made.

Police say that on Nov. 24, 2018, a man walked up to the front door of Wendy Martinez's home and shot the 45-year-old mother of two in the face through her peephole.

Investigators believe the shooter, wearing sweatpants with a Miami Heat basketball logo, may have fled in a BMW.

The victim's family says two weeks earlier, Martinez's older son, Brian Solano, moved out of her home. He had been charged in the 2014 murder of Willie Lora but was released from prison after witnesses recanted their stories to private eye Manny Gomez.

A family spokesperson believes the shooter was trying to retaliate for the crime Solano was accused of and that an innocent woman was caught in the middle.

The NYPD recently tweeted out a video offering up to a $2,500 reward for the arrest and indictment of Martinez's killer.

This will be Barbara Diaz's first Christmas without her daughter. "It has been very painful ... my heart is filled with a lot of pain. I don't have the desire for anything," said Diaz.

Her family says they wants the reward amount increased. They say they are disappointed with the status of the investigation.

The Bronx district attorney says Solano's case is pending.
