A 20-year-old man who was stabbed in the heart this past Saturday died Friday afternoon after being taken off of life support.
Authorities say 20-year-old Giovanni Pimentel was stabbed inside an apartment building along University Avenue last Saturday, Dec. 21 around 2 a.m.
It’s unclear what exactly lead up to the stabbing. The NYPD released video capturing the suspect walking down the street in a black jacket.
According to his mother, Pimentel was hanging out with some friends and was supposed to be home around 1 a.m.
A witness statement claims the stabber yelled something in Spanish during the attack. “Popote" is what that witness heard, which is a known Trinitarios gang phrase. Detectives say they are investigating all angles.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
