Brooklyn mother whose sons were struck by vehicles urges drivers to be cautious

A Brooklyn mother who lost one son to an accident involving an MTA bus and whose other son was injured by a van is offering suggestions for the city to improve pedestrian safety.
DeShawn Willington, 11, was walking at the intersection of East 98th Street and Livonia Avenue Monday when he was hit by a van. He's now recovering at home with a fractured knee and wrist. His family is grateful that his injuries weren't worse, because they're all too familiar with tragedy.
In May of last year, DeShawn's 7-year-old brother lost his life after being hit by a bus while riding his motor scooter down East 184th Street and into moving traffic on Webster Avenue.
Investigators closed the case after finding that the bus had a green light. But the boys' mother Nickyia Willington says drivers should still exercise more caution.
The family is still coping with their loss and asks motorists to always be cautious.
The driver in last week's incident did stay at the scene and is not facing charges. Authorities are still investigating.
