Elected officials and community residents of different faiths gathered in Mount Eden Sunday to speak out against recent hate crimes.

They also spoke out against detained migrant children who will be spending Three Kings Day separated from their families this year.

Once Sunday service was over, community members gathered outside the Latino Pastoral Action Center to denounce anti-Semitism and hatred towards other communities.

Three Kings Day is a holiday that commemorates the three wise men’s visit to Jesus Christ when he was a baby and gave him gifts. Being that it was a Three Kings Day rally, it was a time of lights: the light from the star over Bethlehem, the lights of Kwanzaa and Hanukkah. Leaders thought it was only fitting to light candles at the rally.

"We thought it was appropriate for us to bring light to this violence that has taken hold of this city, of the nation against the Jewish community, continuous violence against the Muslim community," said Latino Pastoral Action Center President Rev. Raymond Rivera.

Leaders also emphasized that the core of each faith is against violence, and that there's a false narrative that some religions promote violence.
