English teacher uses experience as published author to think creatively

Posted: Updated:

An English teacher in the Bronx says she is grateful to not just be able to educate young people, but get them to think creatively by using her experience as a published author.

Jessica Sticklor teaches English at the Academy of Mount Saint Ursula in Bedford Park.

She teaches her students to create their own stories while she fulfills her dream as an author.

Sticklor has written two novels in five years, drawing inspiration from her students to push a strong female narrative.

"Working at an all girls' school I think really helps teach me just how girls can be powerful and empowered, and that is one of the larger themes of this story," she says.

Sticklor is currently working on her third book, set be published this year, and a fourth as well.

She says she is grateful for the opportunity to continue molding young minds while pursuing her other passion.

"It makes me want to keep teaching and keep connecting with these students, and their drive and focus really keeps me going."
