A Bronx livery driver accused in a Fordham stabbing is continuing to proclaim his innocence as he appeared before a judge Tuesday.
Sandy de Jesus Rodriguez is accused of stabbing a man in October 2019 after the defendant's cash box - that contained $190 - was swiped by his alleged female accomplice.
With his lawyer by his side, the livery cab driver stood before a judge in the assault case. The prosecution announced it has yet to bring formal charges against him. De Jesus' attorney says if or when the case moves forward, his client plans to testify before a grand jury.
"This is an innocent man standing right here. The district attorney is aware of the nature of this case and this is the reason why they haven't had any grand jury action," says attorney John Yu.
De Jesus Rodriguez was captured on building surveillance fighting with the male victim, which police say ended in a stabbing.
Weeks later, the driver turned himself in and was charged with menacing, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. He continues to insist that he was defending himself from the two victims in the case, who he claims had robbed him before.
The 42-year-old defendant, who is free on bond, is scheduled to appear back in court on March 5.
