Falling bricks from Melrose building prompt emergency response

Posted: Updated:

Bricks fell from the facade of a Melrose building Sunday, prompting an emergency response.

News 12 is told it happened at a five-story residential building at 753 E. 151st St. News 12's cameras found remnants of the debris still on the ground.

Crews from the Office of Emergency Management responded to the scene to assess the damage.

The Department of Buildings tells News 12 that an approximately 1 square-foot section of bricks at the roof parapet fell off the corner of the building to the sidewalk below.

DOB says it issued a violation to the building owner for failure to maintain the property, and has ordered the property owner to install a sidewalk shed in front and at the side of the building.

No injuries have been reported.
