It’s that time of year again – tax season officially begins Jan. 27.
While many have not made any moves on filing just yet, Sandra Ortiz, a tax preparer at H&R Block on Westchester Avenue in Soundview, says they’ve already received calls from customers.

Ortiz says it's good to start thinking about what big life changes you may have gone through last year. In 25 years, she's watched her clients go through a lot.

"I've seen them come as boyfriend and girlfriend then get married, then the kids, then college. Every situation is different every moment is different when it comes to your taxes," says Oritz.

Whether you're filing for free online or making an appointment with a tax preparer, Ortiz says to have your documents ready.
Ortiz says their H&R Block office is already booking up with appointments through the first two weeks of February.

“With our new tax laws, the reform that started last year, every individual is very different, we'll look at their whole situation to try to maximize their refund,” says Ortiz.

Her biggest piece of advice is to file early.

“It will prevent tax fraud. Just in case someone’s out there trying to use your social if you file as early as you can it'll prevent them trying to use your social for tax returns,” says Ortiz.

Tax season deadline on April 15.
