Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. is suspending his mayoral campaign and says he plans to retire from public office once his term ends in 2021.

In the letter Diaz noted he would return any unspent campaign donations to the original donors, adding “I love the Bronx, and I love New York City. I intend to remain a voice in the conversation surrounding the future of both."
