Posted: Updated:

A Bronx family is seeking justice for the murder of her mother.

The family of Lidia Herrera was seen in Bronx court Thursday for the trial of her accused killer, Angel Montanez. Montanez is accused of killing the 64-year-old woman in her Morrisania apartment on July 3, 2019.

Prosecutors say they intend to prove that Montanez strangled his mother-in-law with a computer cord while her grandchildren were in the apartment.

Authorities say Herrera had an order of protection against him.

Montanez is charged with second-degree murder.

Herrera's family says Montanez took a beloved family member away from them, but that they are confident justice will be served.
