Construction workers in Mott Haven dig up human remains believed to be over 100 years old.
Construction workers unknowingly dug up human remains on the property of a school in Mott Haven Tuesday.
Human bones and a coffin nail were discovered Tuesday during construction outside the South Bronx Educational Campus.
Police and a medical examiner forensic crew shared a photo with News 12 of what was found. Sources say it may be a human femur bone that’s over 100 years old.
Sources also say that before the school was built in the early 1900s, it was formerly the property of Bensonia Cemetery in the 1800s. They say it is possible more remains may be found as the property is dug up.
News 12 was told that officers and the medical examiner forensic operations team took the finds to a lab to be tested.
