A Bronx business owner is sharing her secret to success.

Alice Weise-Goode turned her passion for hair into her livelihood.

After working at various salons she was ready to open her own place, and that’s exactly what she did.

"We have been a 100% natural hair salon, and we cater to the natural hair community, and it has been amazing ever since," says Weise-Goode.

However, she says the business side wasn't easy.

"I just figured, ‘well I can do hair well and [I am going to] grow my business,’ but there are so many things that I needed to know that I didn't know,” says Weise-Goode.

Weise-Goode says that’s when she heard about NYC Small Business Services. They helped her establish a training program and go for more certifications and helped with securing money.

"When you are first starting out, I didn't know where to go for capital, and then the people, people would call your business and offer all these amazing stories, but they are very predatory and not on the up and up,” says Weise-Goode.

SBS connected her to a lender with reasonable rates.

"It was very instrumental for me in growing my business,” says Weise-Goode.

SBS says its doors are open for everyone. They have seven centers located throughout the boroughs. The mission is to help small businesses in all their needs, legal, funding and they have classes.

Weise-Goode says from the help she received from SBS, she is ready for the next step of her journey.

"Purchase my property, purchase a commercial property and open up my school,” says Weise-Goode.
