Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. held his State of the Borough event Thursday.
He took the time to thank Bronx residents and honor community leaders for all of their hard work in making the Bronx a better place, to live and work over the last decade.
"If we stay as committed as we've been over the last 10 years the best is yet to come," said Diaz Jr.
Those who attended tell News 12 that the improvements have not gone unnoticed.
"He's done so much to improve businesses and development and parks and so many things. The most important thing is that Ruben loves the Bronx and its people and it shows in everything he does," said Gerri Sciortino.
However, the BP says that improving the Bronx is not an obligation, but that it is personal. He says the Bronx is not only his home, but that the residents have become his family.
"These aren't just community folks, these are all people who have a story with me. They helped side me politically and personally, and are truly my family," said BP Diaz Jr.
He says he wants Bronx residents to remember how far the Bronx has come over the last decade and how it will continue to make history in the years to come.
