Prosecutor: House fire kills 1 person in Montclair

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that one person has died in an afternoon house fire in Montclair.
The fire started Friday after 3:15 p.m. inside the home on Walnut Crescent Street.
Neighbors tell News 12 New Jersey that the victim was an elderly woman.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known. But it appears that most of the damage from the fire was on the second floor of the house.
“As far as origin goes, all of that stuff is under investigation right now,” says Montclair Deputy Fire Chief Robert Duncan.
Officials say that the woman was the only person inside of the house when the first started.
The woman’s name was not publicly released.
