Students in Throgs Neck learned all about the 2020 United States Census and presented what they learned to a special guest.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says the 2020 Census will shape the future of New York City.
"It’s going to determine our school funding; it’s going to determine how many firefighters and hospitals we get in our community for the next decade to come," says Rep. Ocasio-Cortez.

That's why schools across New York are educating their students about the questionnaire.
In Throgs Neck, students at P.S. 304 presented what they learned.

"I think kids were able to learn because they took whatever information they needed and then shared whatever information they thought was important," says Principal Walter Nino Filippo Galiano Jr.

They shared their new findings with Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez.
"The kids were fabulous today it is so amazing to see all of our talented students here in the Bronx just shine," says Ocasio-Cortez.

Ocasio-Cortez met the students and listened to their presentations.

"I love that they got to pick their own projects they got to do skits and cheers and presentations and poster boards, so it’s really amazing to see what kind of learners we have here as well," says Rep. Ocasio-Cortez.

She then visited the classrooms as their census week kicked off.

"It’s nothing like a child to make a parent or adult follow through on something, and they are our most powerful voices," says Bonnie Boltax, assistant principal.

The congresswoman as well as the teachers at P.S. 304 hope that the students take all they learn in the classroom and bring it home so their parents participate in the census.
