Parents urge state to keep Mott Haven’s Heketi Community Charter School open

Parents with children who attend Heketi Community Charter School are making a plea to keep the Mott Haven facility open.
The state decided to close the school due to a lack of academic improvement.
Parents told News 12 that they disagreed with the state’s decision.
“They told us to bring our numbers up. We brought our numbers up. And I know that because I sit in a lot of the meetings,” said Regina Solano, a mother of a 5-year-old student.
The parents are filling out surveys to send to the city explaining why the school should stay open.
Next month, parents will go to SUNY’s second appeal in Manhattan and speak on behalf of Heketi.
The state's final decision is expected later this spring.
