High school girls gathered from around the Bronx for a mock surgery workshop at Montefiore's Moses Campus on Saturday.
The workshop taught students how to drill, sew and stitch during orthopedic surgeries. They also sat in on lectures from medical professionals.
Montefiore is working with the Perry Initiative, a nonprofit group that coordinates these types of hands-on training sessions for women in high schools all across the country.
Only 14% of trainees to become orthopedic surgeons are women.
