Bronx man faces judge for 3rd time in fatal shooting of store clerk

A Bronx man accused of gunning down a store clerk inside a Mott Haven bodega faced a judge for the third time Monday.
Leonard Nieves is charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon in the shooting death of Yahya Almuntser on Valentine's Day.
The defendant was captured on store surveillance video lumbering around with a cane outside the B&A Gourmet Deli just before police say he entered the bodega and gunned down Almuntser, who was behind the counter
Authorities are still looking into a specific motive.
Eyewitnesses tell police that Nieves didn't say a word when he opened fire, but several published reports indicate that the deli shooting may have been drug-related.
Both Nieves' family and his attorney refused to talk to News 12 after Monday's court appearance.
The prosecution continues to seek an indictment in the case. The defendant expressed through his lawyer that he plans to tell his side of the story to a grand jury when the time comes.
Nieves is due back in court on March 6. He is being held without bail.
