A Bronx man accused of opening fire inside a Longwood police precinct appeared in court Wednesday.
Robert Williams pleaded not guilty in a courtroom full of police officers. The district attorney's office handed down an indictment against Williams that consists of 11 counts of attempted murder in the first degree, 12 counts of attempted murder in the second degree, 11 counts of attempted aggravated assault upon a police officer and 12 counts of attempted assault in the first degree.
This was followed by a handful of other felony charges. Williams faces a total of 52 counts.
District Attorney Darcel Clark says that never in her law enforcement career has she witnessed this kind of unprovoked attack on New York's Finest.
"It's an abomination. How dare someone come into a place where people are working there to help our community to make sure it's safe," said Clark.
Williams is seen on surveillance video and is accused of shooting at an occupied police car on Feb. 8. Hours later, Williams is accused of opening fire inside the 41st Precinct in Longwood.
The shooting injured a patrol officer and a lieutenant.
Officials say they still don't know Williams' motive for attempting to gun down officers but say he has a lengthy criminal past.
