The Archdiocese of New York announced the closure of Catholic elementary schools throughout the state Thursday.
They say the closures will be for a full week, March 16-20, in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. Officials say the schools will be closed starting on Monday.
They say all elementary schools in its system which include Catholic schools in the Bronx, Queens and Staten Island will be closed during the outbreak out of an abundance of caution. They say the closure may possibly be for longer and that all after school activities, athletics, practices and events are canceled indefinitely.
Parents say although they are a little worried, it's something that needs to be done to keep everyone safe and healthy. "The kids are gonna be happy and I'm glad the school is taking precaution," said Michelle Laryea.
