Mayor Bill de Blasio's executive order limits restaurants, bar and cafes to takeout and delivery.

The executive order is in an effort to contain the fast-paced spreading of the coronavirus outbreak. The mayor says starting Tuesday, March 17 at 9 a.m. food establishments will be limited to takeout and delivery. He says it is an effort to promote social distancing.

A part of the executive order is for nightclubs, movie theaters, small theater houses and concert venues to close.

The mayor released a statement saying in part, "The virus can spread rapidly through close interactions New Yorkers have in restaurants, bars and places we sit close together. We have to break that cycle."

Gov. Cuomo said Monday that there will also be temporary changes to the liquor laws that will allow off-site sale of alcohol for bars, distilleries and wineries.  This is to help protect businesses during the coronavirus-related closures.

The mayor says this decision is not one he takes lightly, saying all places are part of the heart and soul of the city.
