Bronx apparel company says it's ready to manufacture masks

Posted: Updated:

Amid tremendous demand for medical supplies across the globe, a Bronx apparel company says it's trying to help fill the need by manufacturing masks, but says it's still waiting on the green light from the state.

Spoiled Rotten USA is a small cut-and-sew clothing company in the South Bronx. Its owner, Eric Beroff, says if they get a purchase order from a hospital or medical facility, the company can churn out 1,000 to 2,000 masks per day.

Beroff had to cut his staff from about 10 employees to three, but says if he gets the orders, he can bring his staffers back on board -- and hire more. He says he's tried contacting the governor to start production but hasn't heard back.

For now, they're just creating small samples but the company has a large supply of materials to get going. He says the masks aren't the N95 masks, but they're something.

If Beroff doesn't hear back soon, his business will be considered nonessential and will have to close its doors by Sunday night.
