Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire this morning in Melrose.

News 12 is told flames sparked from the basement of the two-story building along Cauldwell Avenue and East 156th Street just before 3 a.m.

Windows in the building were left completely shattered on the first and second floor.
News 12 is told firefighters encountered heavy smoke from the basement to the top floors. It took them about an hour to get the fire under control.
Officials say two people were treated for minor injuries.
