'April will be worse than March.' De Blasio thanks New Yorkers for handling 'new reality'

Mayor Bill de Blasio thanked New Yorkers for handling their 'new reality' with 'a lot of strength' Tuesday as he addressed the media with the latest regarding the coronavirus pandemic.

'April will be worse than March.' De Blasio thanks New Yorkers for handling 'new reality'
 
Mayor Bill de Blasio thanked New Yorkers for handling their 'new reality' with 'a lot of strength' Tuesday as he addressed the media with the latest regarding the coronavirus pandemic.  
BRIEFING NOTES:
-'We do not expect this to go quickly,' the mayor says.
-Mayor de Blasio says he disagrees with President Trump and that it will take months to get over pandemic.  "April will be worse than March."
-The mayor says getting back to normal by April is 'inconceivable.' 
-Mayor de Blasio says there are now 14,776 coronavirus cases in New York City with 131 deaths.  The mayor says this represents about 58 percent of cases in the state.
-The mayor speaks about playwright Terrence McNally, who died of coronavirus earlier today, and reflects on his life. 
-The mayor says ventilators will be the difference between life and death. 
-Mayor de Blasio says as long as an unused ventilator is sitting in a federal warehouse then something is wrong.  Says once New York is done with them they'll look to other parts of country that need them to make sure they are given to those areas. 
-Mayor says 4,000 ventilators heading to NY, 2,000 of which will go to the city.  However, he says this is merely a fraction of what is needed. Says this is a race against time.  
-Is grateful for all out-of-state manufacturing help, says NY will return the favor.
-Says in many parks and places he's seeing 'broad adherence' for social distancing guidelines. 
-Mayor says he's ready to close playgrounds if needed.  Locations will be monitored through Saturday when a decision will be made. 
-'No good news at all' when it comes to the city budget. Says he has directed 1.3B in cost savings.  Process begins with city agencies and the cost may go up.
-Alternate-side parking will be suspended through March 31. 
-Public hospitals say that partners should be allowed in the room for the process of labor with certain precautions.  If the partner is symptomatic of coronavirus or has tested positive they will not be allowed in. 
-Citi Bike offering 30-day free trial.
-The mayor talks about jail system, says 'at risk' populations should not be in jail system.  Is working through a very complicated legal system.
