A Bronx bar has lost its liquor license after violating an executive order issued during the coronavirus pandemic.
The State Liquor Authority says numerous complaints and 311 calls were made about Luke’s Lounge on March 19.
Police showed up and broke up a crowd of at least 30 people drinking inside and gave the place a warning. However, the night after police had to issue another warning because the first one was ignored.
People were still drinking inside, so the NYPD closed the business. However, authorities say that was also ignored.
Police issued a summons, but say that still wasn’t enough, because people were drinking on the fourth night both inside and outside of the business.
The bar is doing business as ‘Cafe Serata.’
The SLA charged ‘Cafe Serata’ with multiple violations on March 30.
"Despite repeated warnings, this licensee continued to operate in clear defiance of the Governor's directive, and in crass disregard for the health and safety of their patrons, police and the public. While we thank the majority of businesses who are adhering to these essential measures in the face of this unprecedented health crisis, it should be crystal clear the SLA will not hesitate to take immediate actions to protect the public against the spread of the coronavirus,” said SLA Chairman Vincent Bradley.
Under Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s "New York State On Pause" executive order, restaurants and bars can be open only for takeout and delivery with no food or drink being served on site.
