The West Tremont Avenue step street is open to the public after two years of extensive restoration.

The public passageway was built over 100 years ago and was in need of repair. 

Renovation on the stairway began back in 2018 in collaboration with the city's Department of Design and Construction and the Department of Transportation. The multimillion-dollar makeover not only improved the infrastructure of the public pass-thru but also connected pedestrians from Cedar to Sedgwick avenues. 

The newly constructed step street also provides easier access to Roberto Clemente State Park, schools and public transportation. 

Some new features are new lighting and bike channels that have been installed to help promote pedestrian safety. People who frequently use the pedestrian walkway say it's now safer for the public. 

Several trees will be planted in the spring to beautify the area.
