More than 11,700 members of Local 101 Transport Workers Union are out addressing natural gas needs during the pandemic.

Sixteen union members have tested positive for coronavirus.

"How are you going to promote social distancing when you're an arm's length away within a cab? So we worked it out with National Grid and we have individuals taking separate vehicles to the work site, you know, trying to have heightened situational awareness," said John Nellis Jr., quality control field assessor.

Nellis says there is also a road map for employees to follow when entering a customer's premise.

Members are also operating on an A and B schedule where they get off a week in between to rest.
