The Bangladeshi community in the Bronx is mourning the loss of a prominent community member who lost his life to COVID-19.
Close friends and business colleagues of Mohammad Gias Uddin say he died last week after battling the virus for 10 days in the hospital.
They say Uddin was an influential business leader and advocate for the Parkchester community. They also say he was a devoted family man and Muslim.
They say he was never afraid to speak out against injustice.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sent her condolences to his family in a statement saying, “Mr. Uddin's lively presence was a hallmark of our neighborhood. Many of us frequented his store, A&A Double Discount, and will keep the memory of his generous hospitality with us always.”
