A fundraising effort is underway to get personal protective equipment to front line workers, including NYPD, FDNY, medical workers, bus drivers -- and bodega workers.

Nasim Almuntaser has worked at his family's Brighton Beach business for 10 years and is facing the new realities of the pandemic. It has been hard to social distance with customers, but they have been limiting it to two people inside their deli at a time.

Almuntaser says he's ill-equipped during the pandemic, wearing the same mask for a month -- but some of the other workers have nothing.

And while most of the other bodegas in the area have reduced their hours, Brighton Finest Gourmet Deli is the only one in the area operating 24 hours.

The Yemeni American Merchants Association felt compelled to help after learning of the shortage of PPE supplies with at least 65 positive cases among its 4,000 members. The nonprofit set up the New York City Mask Mission Campaign, and says 100% of each donation will help front line workers -- including providing each bodega with a safety kit.

The kit includes masks, hand sanitizer and latex gloves.

With the money raised so far, the association plans to start assembling kits and sending them out this week.
