Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Saturday that marinas and boatyards will be open for personal use during the coronavirus pandemic as long as social distancing is followed.

Cuomo made the announcement along with Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy. Officials say that you can only boat with people you live with or you must maintain a 6-foot distance.

They say sanitation protocols must be enforced, and that chartered watercraft services and rentals will not be allowed.

The governors also say that restaurants along the marinas will only be allowed to provide delivery or takeout. They say that a unified approach is best when it comes to policies so that there is less confusion and people won't travel to avoid certain rules.

Cuomo also announced that hospitalizations and the number of lives lost are down in the state. He and Mayor Bill de Blasio have said that they are focused on testing.

Cuomo called on the federal government to coordinate the supply chain for testing as over 7,000 new cases were announced. De Blasio also called out President Donald Trump for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

This weekend marked the first time that New Yorkers were required to wear face masks in public when social distancing is not possible.

A face mask can be a homemade cloth, bandana or scarf as long as your nose and mouth are covered.
