The first trilingual testing site opened in Sunset Park Friday in an effort to get New Yorkers tested for coronavirus antibodies.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo revealed primary antibody test results showing one in every five New Yorkers tested positive for coronavirus antibodies. The finding could mean that the death rate is actually much lower than earlier reports.
That is why the testing site is important and the first of its kind to open up to Chinese, Spanish and English speakers. The site is run by SOMOS, a nonprofit physician-led network of health care providers.
After a patient has already tested positive and has been without a fever for three days, the testing site administers fingerprint antibody tests for results in 15 minutes.
They say the goal is to bring much-needed testing to immigrants, especially in Sunset Park, a predominantly Latin and Chinese community.  They want to get a better snapshot of how the section of Brooklyn is beginning to recover.
The walk-through testing site is free and by appointment only and patients are being screened beforehand. Authorities say more testing like this is another step closer to giving New Yorkers the green light to get back to work again.
