A Brooklyn business is branching out to help New Yorkers protect themselves during the COVID-19 pandemic.
From a small village in Pakistan to the Big Apple, Sidra Qasim and Waqas Ali are the founders of Atoms – an online sneaker brand based out of the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
But when the pandemic hit their new home, the couple started to think differently.
"We actually asked this question to ourselves: 'Can we use our resources of shoe manufacturing to make masks?’" Qasim said.
They have since been making resources for the production of non-medical reusable masks that are being sold on their website. They say they have sold 56,000 of them in the last 10 days.
Qasim and Ali say they are not profiting off the mask sales and they also say they have donated some sneakers to help health care workers.
