A Bronx market owner is devastated after a thief robbed his store of $26,000.
Kris Bhowmik and his brother own Deshi Bazaar Food Market along White Plains Road, and they say someone broke in early Tuesday morning.
“He broke the door and got inside and took all the money we had and also the lotto,” says Bhowmik.
Police say the man got away with $22,000 in cash and over $4,000-worth of lottery tickets.
"He was in here 45 minutes. 45 minutes he was in the store,” says Bhowmik.
That Tuesday afternoon he says his brother decided to close the shop early and made sure to lock the doors, but he says the suspect managed to squeeze under the front gate and open the door.
“He works very hard almost 12-18 hours a day and this is what happens,” says Bhowmik.
Police are now working to identify the man caught on surveillance video. Police are offering up to a $2,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest and indictment.
“We try to be safe and this is also the community business. Everyone comes here and for someone to do this, it’s just terrible,” says Bhowmik.
