Police say a large crowd of people was found inside a synagogue in Williamsburg Wednesday morning. 

Now, Mayor Bill de Blasio is getting involved. A spokesperson from the mayor's office is calling this behavior unacceptable, saying they served the synagogue a cease and desist on Wednesday. 

Police say they received a 311 call of social distancing concerns at 113 South 8th St. around 8 a.m.

When they arrived at the scene, they said they found a large crowd inside and ordered the group to disperse and they did. 

Police say the interaction was peaceful and there were no arrests or summonses. This comes after police issued a recent policy that they would no longer ticket people for not wearing a face covering.

Big gatherings are still not allowed in New York City because of the ongoing risk of spreading the coronavirus. That includes schools and houses of worship. 

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that religious gatherings of 10 people or less will be allowed statewide starting Thursday.
