Get back to nature with a road trip to Pelham Bay Park

With New York City still on pause, many typical springtime attractions are shut down, but there are still plenty of things to do in the city.
Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx is one of New York City's largest parks, bringing New Yorkers closed to natures, even in the midst of a pandemic.
Pelham Bay Park is open for everyone to come out and enjoy. As with all city parks, there are some restrictions, such as playgrounds, rec centers and sports courts being closed There is also no barbecuing for the time being.
However, with more than 2,700 acres at Pelham Bay Park, there is still certainly a lot of fun to be had.
Visitors can enjoy some bird watching on the nature trail, and there's also lots of areas to fish.
Pelham Bay Park Administrator Marianne Anderson says the miles of bike paths throughout have been popular with cyclists lately. Nearby Orchard Beach is also part of the park and a great spot to catch some sun on the sand, just no swimming right now.
“We have Hunter Island and Twin Island that are near City Island and Orchard Beach, and there are short hikes for kids and longer hikes,” says Anderson.
There are miles of nature trails all over the park, including those on the southern end that go through the forest and out onto the 13-miles of coastline along the Long Island Sound.
