A group of teenagers in Brooklyn stole golf carts from Marine Park golf course, leaving behind a path of destruction, police say.
The incident happened Sunday at Marine Park Golf Course.
According to police, six golf carts were taken from the property and were spotted on Hendrickson Street nearby the course.
One 16-year-old in the group of six was arrested in the Kings Plaza parking garage and charged with burglary, grand larceny, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, criminal trespassing and obstructing governmental administration.
This is the last thing Michael Giordano, who runs the Marine Park Golf Course, says they needed.
Giordano says destruction left behind from the teens looks like a twister ripped through the property.
"This comes at a particularly difficult time because we're trying to plan for an opening," he says.
Giordano says while six carts were taken, there was damage and vandalism done to at least 20 carts, along with their fence, which he says the teens rammed to get the cars out.
He says they've been closed for over two months due to the pandemic, with no revenue. And the damage, which could total up to $100,000, is a huge blow to their business.
Giordano says at least 20 golf carts have obvious damage, but the full extent has not yet been determined with possible damage to the golf course itself.
