One man is dead and another in police custody after a fight inside the Gowanus Houses.
Police were called to the scene at 235 Hoyt St. just before 4 p.m. Tuesday.
That is where they found a 34-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators tell News 12 the suspect, who is 28 years old, was dropping off his 2-year-old child to their mother’s apartment and apparently got into a fight with her boyfriend. Police say things escalated and the 28-year-old shot the 34-year-old, killing him. The child was not hurt.
The NYPD says shootings across Brooklyn have increased in the past 28 days. Chief of Department Terence Monahan says there have been 310 gun arrests across the city, with 185 of them in Brooklyn and since the coronavirus outbreak most offenders in Brooklyn have been released.
He says that most of the shootings have been in East Flatbush and in Canarsie, and have been gang related. News 12 is told this particular shooting does not appear to be gang related.
