It was a chaotic scene near Fordham Road Monday night into Tuesday morning as looters damaged several stores, following yet another day of protests in New York City.
There was a heavy police presence at Fordham Road Monday night as many protesters continue to take their voices to the streets, standing in solidarity with George Floyd, an unarmed man who died during an arrest in Minneapolis.
Along and near Fordham Road, there were multiple fires in and out of garbage cans, and looting with several stores being broken into.
At about 5:30 a.m., News 12 cameras captured about 25 people going in and out from underneath a store gate, and coming out with multiple pairs of sneakers and other items.
Police tell News 12 objects were being thrown at them Monday night. With a very intense scene, the mayor visited and took to social media tweeting, “Just left the Bronx. Real problems on Fordham Road, also Burnside Avenue. Spoke with Councilman Fernando Cabrera about immediate steps to address the situation.”
While things appear to be quiet for now, police continue to block Fordham Road as they try to protect the area.
