The MTA is doing its part to make sure the transit system is ready, and commuters feel safe riding the subway as the city starts to reopen.

People are heading back to work, which means more New Yorkers will be depending on public transportation, with many asking for the subways to remain open overnight.

This morning MTA workers passed out face masks and sanitizer bottles, as service returns back to regular schedule.

However, overnight cleanings will still remain in effect from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. Something Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez, chairman of the Transportation Committee, is demanding to remove.

“There’s people working at different times. That’s my first call today for the MTA to reopen today. So, all riders have 24/7 services,” says Rodriguez.

The MTA has placed markings throughout public transit stations, reminding riders to keep a safe social distance.
