Some graduating seniors were recognized Saturday with one of the first in-person ceremonies in the area.

Academy of Mount St. Ursula decided to have an in-person, outdoor ceremony after Gov. Andrew Cuomo said limited ceremonies would be permitted. While it's not how seniors imagined their special day, many say they are still happy to just see their friends in person again.

Seniors had to stand behind white lines separated by 6 feet. The seats in the courtyard were also 6 feet apart as the school strictly enforced the 150 person occupancy rule, allowing each senior a max of two guests.

Graduating students wore not only their cap and gowns, but also mandatory masks. Senior Lucy Ngyugen actually decided to wear her prom dress since she didn't get to use it this year.

Seniors already got their diplomas in the mail, but at the ceremony they got to hear their names called out, take picture, and be recognized for their hard work and maybe even feel a little normal again for the first time in months after an unprecedented end to their high school years.

The school says it is glad it got to do something special for the seniors and hope to plan a more traditional ceremony when it can.
