Starting Wednesday, New York City will implement COVID-19 checkpoints at key entry points into the city, Mayor Bill de Blasio said during his briefing this morning.

The sheriff's office, in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, will undertake the checkpoints at bridges and tunnel crossings in various areas of the city. The checkpoints will change daily.

Travelers coming in from states in the tri-state quarantine list will be given information about the quarantine and will be reminded that failure of the quarantine is a violation of state law. Penalties include fines as high as $10,000.

In order to help visitors quarantine for two weeks, the NYC's Test & Trace Corps. will offer free food deliveries, help with medications, direct connections to doctors by the phone, and hotel stays.

NYC Test & Trace Corps. will also be present at various locations, such as Penn Station, where it will encourage visitors to fill out the traveler health form.

When buying a plane ticket, arriving to the city, checking into a hotel or buying a ticket to one of the city's attractions, visitors will have to fill out a required travel form online.

Mayor de Blasio also spoke about the destruction left in the wake of Isaias during his morning briefing. He recalled an incident in which a Queens resident was killed when a tree fell on his car.

The mayor said New Yorkers made over 100 calls per minute to the NYPD.
