Students, PAL march for after-school programs
Grade-school students marched in the borough as the Police Athletic League celebrated 'Lights on Afterschool' programs Thursday.
The programs have a range of benefits for students, according to organizers.
They help children tackle their homework, hone their social skills and they also teach healthy eating and active living.
Lights on Afterschool supporters rallied across the country Thursday calling on state governments to keep funding the programs.
The more than 100-year-old PAL is the city's largest, independent nonprofit youth organization.
