Students petition for unlimited fares on MetroCards
Students have started a petition to allow student MetroCards to carry unlimited fares.
Currently, full-fare student MetroCards allot three rides and transfers per day and don't work after 8:30 p.m. or on weekends for more than a half-million students.
Supporters of the petition say those limitations prevent students from getting involved in extracurricular activities and sometimes even getting to school.
Samantha Fierro, the student who created the petition online is hoping to get the attention of the Department of Education, Office of Pupil Transportation and Mayor Bill De Blasio.
The Office of Pupil Transportation says that it works closely with families and schools to ensure each student receives the proper services and support they need.
The petition has already garnered more than 11,000 signatures from students and parents.
