Suffolk officials announced new measures Wednesday that aim to enhance school security in the county and help authorities respond to any emergencies.
The new measures include more random patrols of school buildings in an effort to deter criminal activity and to help officers familiarize themselves with school grounds. It also calls for more school resource officer training.
Bellone says they will soon launch a new “text a tip” line that will allow people to text a report of any troublesome information regarding school safety.
The county executive says these measures are needed as school threats have skyrocketed across the nation and on Long Island. He wouldn't say how much the measures would cost, but did say funds would come out of the existing police department budget.
