Summer slump hits businesses near BX schools
Business owners near Bronx schools say they are experiencing a summer slump now that classes are finished for the season.
Fito Andreou has been a restaurant owner in Westchester Square for more than a decade. He says he usually loses about 30 percent of business over the summer.
"It's a ghost town. The trains are emptier, the streets [have] less traffic, no school buses," Andreou told News 12.
Store owners say the teachers and school staff are missed just as much as the students during the summer months. They say they look forward to when business picks up in September.
Friday was the last day of classes for public schools in the city.
