Suspect declared fit for trial in slaying of pregnant woman
The Bronx woman who last month pleaded not guilty to fatally stabbing a pregnant woman and trying to steal her baby was declared fit to stand trial Tuesday.
Prosecutors accuse Ashleigh Wade of cutting open the stomach of Angelikque Sutton, 22, to claim Sutton's baby for herself.
The brutal November stabbing took place inside the victim's Wakefield home.
Sutton's parents preached forgiveness outside the courtroom. They are now caring for their granddaughter, Genesis, who survived the attack.
Wade faces charges of murder, kidnapping and criminal possession of a weapon.
Wade's next court date is April 5.
